Microsatellites, also known as simple sequence repeats (SSRs) or short tandem repeats (STRs), have been popular markers due to their high polymorphism. The PCR reaction is performed with fluorescently labelled primers, after which the PCR fragments can be analysed in a capillary DNA sequencing machine and the data analysed using GeneMapperTM software.
