A laboratory with a large team working for businesses on applied research projects.  

At Eurecat’s Battery Technology Laboratory, we conduct testing, mathematical modelling and multi-physics simulations of all types of vehicles, storage systems and complex and hybrid applications.

We size, select and characterise basic components and complex systems. We have climatic chambers from -80 to +150ºC, 4000A at 5V, 2000A at 80V and 400A at 750V and we devise the most appropriate experimental method to ascertain the behaviour and limits of each component tested.

  • Characterisation of batteries, modules and cells
  • Selection of components according to their application: fixed or mobile, normal or extreme operating conditions and use or duration cycles
  • Validation of chargers, BMS and battery temperature monitoring systems
  • Sizing hybrid propulsion and uninterruptible power supply systems
  • Studying the efficiency of each system component
  • Assessing the mechanical, thermal and electrochemical behaviour of battery, cell and cooling circuit designs using FEA and CFD simulation.

Electrical cycling (galvanostatic, amperometric), thermal cycling, thermal abuse, punching, dropping, percussion, crushing and incineration. EIS (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy), HPPC (hybrid pulse power characterisation), GITT (galvanostatic intermittent titration technique), induced short-circuit, overload and overheating. Battery or cell behaviour models in Python or MATLAB. Data acquisition (DAQ) Battery or cell behaviour models in multi-physics simulation software, FEA and CFD, ABAQUS and ANSYS.
