Modulated differential scanning calorimetry

The Analysis and Characterisation Laboratory’s modulated differential scanning calorimetry test involves observing a polymeric material’s enthalpy variation in greater detail than conventional calorimetry.

A thermal ramp with sinusoidal readout is used to separate the kinetic and thermodynamic transitions. Furthermore, the calorimetric curve is determined and the most relevant transitions (glass transition, Tg; melting temperature, Tm; crystallisation temperature, Tc) are analysed.
